The function of the contactless RFID card is the same as IC and ID card, which is to supply the power from the frequency of the reader by receiving the antenna and running data to return to the reader. The contactless RFID card is made of an IC module and antenna, enclosed into a PVC card. Read/writing to contactless RFID card is finished by the radio between the contactless card and the reader. The read distance is 5-10CM.
The advantage of the contactless RFID card is as follows: high reliability, convenient and quick operation, anti-collision, multi-application, and well encryption. There are three types of IC cards, which are as follows:
- Radiofrequency encrypted (RF ID) is called an ID card. Store and taking the data of RFID card is done by radio. No touch point between the host and the radio. Such as HID, INDARA, TI, EM, and so on. The thick cards and access control cards are ID cards.
- Radiofrequency storage is called a contactless IC card. A radiofrequency storage card is also to store and take data from the radio. It adds an RF transceiver circuit at the base of the storage cards. Such as Mifare 1K. These card are applied to transportation and student cards.
- Radiofrequency CPU (RF CPU) is called an active card. It added an RF transceiver circuit at the base of the CPU card. And CPU cards have their operating system( COS). Most financial IC card is CPU card.
There are three types of protocols for the contactless cards. ISO14443A: Mifare 1K, 4K, Ultralight, Ultralight C, Desfire; ISO14443B: SR176, SR1512, SR12K; ISO15693: I-code, TI Tag.
